He participated in many award-winning projects, such as the Visitor Center of Art Omi Pavilions @Chatham ,&nbsp;Battery Playscape, Minnewaska State Park Visitor Center, and 50 Ninth. Chung-Wei holds a Master of Architecture II degree from The Cooper Union in New York City, USA, and a Bachelor of Architecture degree with honors from Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan. He is a recipient of the RTF Sustainability Award and the New Talent Award of Taiwan's National Golden Award for Architecture. His recent writings and works have appeared in Taiwan Architect magazine, the Architectural Institute of Taiwan Journal, and Architecture of Nature / Nature of Architecture by Diana Agrest. cl@planplan.nyc Buzz Wei, AIA Buzz Wei is a licensed architect with over a decade of experience in design and project management across New York and Taiwan. Prior to founding Plan Plan Architecture, he served as Associate Director at Fogarty Finger Architecture, where he focused on condominium and rental housing projects throughout the tri-state area. While obtaining multifamily as his domain, he has expanded his involvement to other typologies and scales. He combines his knowledge of building design with an acute sensibility for detailing, proportion, and materials to find creative solutions to day-to-day design problems. Buzz Wei received his Bachelor of Architecture from Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan and a Master of Science in Advanced Architecture Design from Columbia University. He is the recipient of both Lucille Smyser Lowenfish Memorial Prize and Taiwan’s National Golden architecture award. bw@planplan.nyc Yu-Hsiang LinHsiang is an architect and BIM specialist with over 10 years of experience in a wide range of design projects from retail, workplace, commercial office to multifamily. His interest is not only in the creation of environments and objects, but also in the process of materialization of design thinking and delivery with more efficiency. Previously Hsiang has participated in many projects in Leong Leong Architecture, including Los Angeles LGBT Center; Ray Philly, a multifamily development in Philadelphia; ONX Studio, R13 Denim Store and Everlane Flagships in New York. Zhongli’s growth has long been shaped by its industrial district and the steady movement of workers and students. Together, these groups continue to define the rhythms of the neighbourhood, giving it a distinctive mix of working-class pragmatism and youthful energy. The project builds on an element that appears everywhere in local daily life: the metal tube. Commonly found in night-market stalls, folding furniture, and makeshift kitchens, the tube embodies the area’s resourcefulness and adaptability. Its circular form also subtly resonates with the name “Chung-Yuan,” evoking notions of origin, inclusiveness, and a shared space where diverse groups coexist and interact. Project OOO transforms this everyday material into a spatial and signalling language that shape the district’s new identity. It takes form as a sculptural entrance installation, a wavy illuminated “Light Lane” that enhances navigation while providing places to gather and rest, and modular street-market furnishings such as traffic cones and temporary tabletops. The metal tube also becomes the basis for a revitalised expression at the former Zhongyuan Theatre, reinterpreting its iconic corner façade through contemporary light and structural detailing. Beyond physical space, the tubular motif extends into graphic design. Signage, maps, posters, and digital media translate its geometry into a clear visual system, allowing spatial and graphic identities to reinforce one another and strengthening the district’s overall legibility. By reframing a familiar industrial component, Project OOO mediates between historical memory and contemporary urban life. It offers a refreshed experience of the district—one that honours its layered past while guiding it toward cultural and spatial revitalisation. Designed for a couple and their child within a limited budget, the project serves as a model for how this methodology might extend to other households—young families, couples, or working professionals—negotiating the demands of everyday life. Working within tight financial constraints, the design first strategizes its own scope. Rather than distributing a modest budget evenly, it concentrates resources where they yield the greatest spatial transformation and leaves sound existing conditions undisturbed: flooring, bathrooms, and plumbing are retained, and the material palette is held to two elements—stained birch plywood and stainless-steel sheets. On the upper floor, an open-plan living area and a communal dining table accommodate shifting modes of play, work, and gathering, while an integrated home office supports remote work. A retractable, ceiling-mounted projector screen sustains the open plan, defining a space for film or focus on demand without a permanent partition. On the lower level, a grid of Ryukyu tatami establishes the organizing module for the plan, governing room dimensions, the placement of doors, and the logic of the carpentry. The same tatami also introduces warmth and intimacy underfoot for the bedrooms. More than circulation, the staircase acts as a central connector, threading sleep, work, and daily life into one continuous sequence. Within the stairwell, natural and artificial light interplay, reinforcing the sense of spatial continuity. CC Residence demonstrates how thoughtful, budget-conscious design can produce adaptable, comfortable environments for urban living. Therefore, the sense of transparency is omnipresent in this space. Two materials that interact light differently were implemented surrounding the dining space — translucent Austrian curtains along the windows soften the sunlight, creating a gentle interplay between light and shadow. This filtered light, in turn, reflects off the polycarbonate-paneled wall on the opposite side, diffusing throughout the space and contributing to an atmosphere that feels airy, bright, and ever-changing. As the sun sets, the tall polycarbonate-paneled wall transforms into a glowing lantern, illuminating the space and the curtains, which creates an intimate and cozy lounge ambiance. Pendant light fixtures, along with a series of floating elements glimmering with warm lights, greet guests and passersby on Dean Street. Underneath the translucent curtain and transparent walls, cement tiles with different shades of warm grays,which were informed by Chinese gray bricks, become the dominant surfaces in different forms that guests can touch, lean on, or sit in, and linear planters along the curtain wall to house the succulent greens. Opaque and translucent, rough and sleek, traditional and contemporary, a series of contrasting pairs in dialogue echo Nin Hao’s ethos, which embraces its cultural roots while also embodying a contemporary spirit and a well to adventure.
